Susan Malter is endorsed for 59th District

The Chicago Tribune

February 27, 2018

"Malter, an attorney, has a record of putting progressive beliefs into action: She left her house in January 2017 and headed to O’Hare International Airport to assist travelers impacted by President Trump’s travel ban. She says she would not vote to re-elect Michael Madigan as House speaker, something to which few Democrats will commit. Didech, meanwhile, is taking gobs of money from Madigan and his allies. You know where he’d stand and how deeply he’d bow. Malter is endorsed."

The Daily Herald

February 26, 2018

"Malter, a former Cook County prosecutor, founded a nonprofit to connect at-risk schoolchildren and their families to social services and has hosted talks between Muslim and Jewish members of the community. Her involvement in a variety of civic organizations, such as the Chicago Community Trust, gives her the edge. That broad experience could prove particularly valuable in a state where social services have suffered in the past decade because of political gridlock. We endorse Malter for the Democratic nomination."

59th District State Representative

Susan's Story

Susan and her husband, Bruce, have lived in Lincolnshire with their two children since 2002. Susan is a lawyer whose first job out of law school was in criminal appeals with the Cook County State's Attorney.  She left that work to found Profamily, a not-for-profit that helped children of at-risk families in Chicago's highest crime neighborhoods. Susan was recently honored by Chicago Volunteer Legal Services for her distinguished service for people who cannot afford to pay for legal assistance. In January, 2017, Susan joined the legal team at O'Hare's Terminal 5 in a leadership position to fight Trump's Muslim Ban. Susan sees in the 59th district what she saw through her work with Profamily and her work with CVLS: our legislators do not see or hear all of us. . . just some of us.  Susan will fight so that every voice is heard. This is what democracy looks like!

Susan on the Issues

Susan stood up to Trump and his Muslim Ban at O'Hare's International Terminal.  She will stand up to gun manufacturers who have hijacked the NRA and the conversation on safety.

Susan stood up to Trump and an ineffectual Rauner by working with Dreamers to renew DACA status.

Susan will stand up to Springfield's  insiders by supporting term limits on legislative leaders.

Susan supports a progressive income tax and a change in the property tax system. School funding should not come from property taxes.

Susan is 100% pro-choice and strongly believes in the separation of church and state. Susan believes that women are responsible for their own choices regarding their bodies with consultation from their doctors.
